The Battle Of Foundation Applicators
There have been so many different foundation tools available to us but which is the best? There is the beauty sponge, which had been made wildly popular by the launch of the "Beauty Blender" in 2007. In the more recent years, silicone sponges had become a popular choice for many. Not to mention what people had been using for years before the brought up of these different sponges, the foundation brush. And let's not forget our handy-dandy fingers! So which is the best tool for applying our foundation?
Now the disclaimer, this is all my humble opinion. If you disagree that's your opinion just like all this is mine :).
Now for my thoughts! The worst choice for me has to be using your fingers. This is just messy, unsanitary, it gets under your nails I just do not like this method. This can also make the foundation process drag on! You first have to wash your hands, then apply the foundation and then wash your hands after unless of course, you want foundation everywhere. Now a benefit is the ease of control. You can really get into the harder to reach places like above your lips and under your eyebrows. However, I don't feel like it is truly worth it.
Let's move on to that new craze, the silicone sponge. This is such a great idea. I loved the idea of the little to no waste of foundation and also the smoothness I thought my foundation would appear to look on me. However, I was a little disappointed. This is by far the longest way of applying! It takes forever to completely cover your whole face and appear not cakey. The foundation you save though may make it worth you're wild though! Unlike a typical sponge or brush, it uses every last bit of foundation!
Time to discuss the foundation brush! I like this way of applying. I do not think it is the best, but it is still a good tool. I feel though (kind of similar to the silicone sponge) you are painting your face. Your face will look more of like a canvas rather than your face, you can tell you are wearing foundation. Now an easy way to fix that is to use a buffing brush or a beauty sponge after. However, a foundation brush is a sort of basic. I do not feel it is ever going to go out of style.
Beauty sponges are by far my favorite way of application! In my opinion, they create the most flawless finish. Also, they are super easy to clean (it takes like 2 minutes to clean and I (try) to clean it every other use). Really to me, the only downside is it does absorb your foundation.
Recap, this is all my opinion. I know depending on the type of foundation, the brand of the applicator as well as countless other factors this may not rain true with everyone. So for me from worst to best, my preference of foundation applicators goes; fingers, silicone sponge, foundation brush, and the best beauty sponges.
